Roof Replacement & Repair in Godwin, North Carolina

100 of the 117 roof-relevant events NOAA recorded in Cumberland County between 2016 and 2026 were thunderstorm wind. Hail accounts for 16. The strongest gust in the file is 62 kt, measured on Jul 15, 2024. For completeness, the largest hail the county has on record is Golf Ball at 1.75 in, on Jun 5, 2016 — a single day, not a pattern.

Wind does not damage a roof the way hail does, and it does not damage the same parts of it. Wind works on the edges. Uplift concentrates along the eaves, the rake edges and the ridge, where a shingle's sealant strip is the only thing holding the tab down; once one tab breaks its seal the course above loses its anchor and the failure runs along the line. That is why wind damage tends to appear as a clean run of lifted or missing tabs at a perimeter rather than as scattered marks across the middle of a slope. On a roof in this county the places worth looking at first are the ridge caps, the first two courses above the gutter, the rake edge on the side the weather comes from, and the metal flashing where the roof meets a wall or a chimney.
