Brown shingles around a brick chimney
Inspected in August 2025 and finished at the end of October. The brick ranch sits in the woods; the new roof is a brown-blend architectural shingle, with metal flashing where the roof meets the brick chimney.

Roanoke Rapids · Enfield · Halifax County
Roanoke Rapids is about 32 miles north of our Rocky Mount office in a straight line, and Halifax County sits between the two. The jobs on this page are a Roanoke Rapids re-roof finished in October 2025 and two in Enfield, one of them shown from the old roof to the tear-off.
Halifax County's NOAA file is almost all wind: 90 of its 101 roof-relevant events since 2016 were thunderstorm wind. It also holds a 2.50-inch hailstone from May 31, 2019 and an EF1 tornado from April 19, 2019. The record is further down this page.

Inspected at the end of October 2025 and re-roofed in January 2026. With the shingles off, damaged sections of the old plywood deck were cut out and replaced with new OSB before anything went on top.

The first photo is from the inspection in August 2023: a green board-and-batten house among the trees. The second is from December 2023, with the tear-off under way and the crew working across the top.

We do not have a Roanoke Rapids office. Halifax County is served from our main office at 136 S. Business Ct in Rocky Mount, about 32 miles south in a straight line. Call (252) 302-2003; an active leak can be called in at any hour.
Flat and low-slope roofs, metal roofs and roof coatings for Roanoke Rapids businesses, churches and property managers, from a leak repair to a full replacement.
Wind-lifted and missing shingles, leaks at chimneys and vents, and flashing that has pulled away from brick. An active leak gets a tarp first.
Tear-off down to the deck, damaged sheathing replaced as on the Enfield job above, and new architectural shingles with the chimney re-flashed.
A free storm inspection photographs every slope, so the claim starts from evidence rather than a guess from the yard.

What the public record says about roofs in Roanoke Rapids and the rest of Halifax County
90 of the 101 roof-relevant events NOAA recorded in Halifax County between 2016 and 2026 were thunderstorm wind. Hail accounts for 8. The strongest gust in the file is 50 kt, measured on Aug 17, 2016. For completeness, the largest hail the county has on record is Baseball at 2.50 in, on May 31, 2019 — a single day, not a pattern.
Wind does not damage a roof the way hail does, and it does not damage the same parts of it. Wind works on the edges. Uplift concentrates along the eaves, the rake edges and the ridge, where a shingle's sealant strip is the only thing holding the tab down; once one tab breaks its seal the course above loses its anchor and the failure runs along the line. That is why wind damage tends to appear as a clean run of lifted or missing tabs at a perimeter rather than as scattered marks across the middle of a slope. On a roof in this county the places worth looking at first are the ridge caps, the first two courses above the gutter, the rake edge on the side the weather comes from, and the metal flashing where the roof meets a wall or a chimney.
The $987,500 figure is NOAA's reported property damage for the whole of Halifax County from these storms, 2016–2026 — a county-wide reporting total. It is not the cost of a roof, and it is not an amount paid to any property owner.
Event descriptions as recorded in the NOAA NCEI Storm Events Database.
* 2026 is a partial year — the record runs to the most recent update of the source, not to the end of the year, so its bar is not comparable with the others. A year showing zero had no recorded hail, tornado or thunderstorm-wind event in this county.

Storm damage · Roanoke Rapids, NC
Roanoke Rapids sees wind far more than anything else: nearly every entry in Halifax County's file is thunderstorm wind. The exceptions are big ones, a baseball-sized hailstone and an EF1 tornado, both in the spring of 2019. Older homes under tall trees here also take limb damage in the same storms.
The public record backs that up. Between 2016 and 2026, the NOAA NCEI Storm Events Database logged 101 roof-relevant storm events in Halifax County: 8 hail, 90 thunderstorm-wind and 3 tornado reports. The largest hail in the file measured 2.50 in. (Baseball) on May 31, 2019. The strongest measured gust was 50 knots on Aug 17, 2016, in the unit the source records. One entry in the county file reads: “May 31, 2019 -- Hail (Baseball hail, 2.50 in)”.
