New Bern · Trent Woods · Craven County
Carolina Trophy Roofs replaces and repairs roofs in New Bern, Trent Woods and across Craven County. We serve New Bern from our offices in Greenville and Rocky Mount; the three roofs on this page are recent New Bern-area jobs, photographed by our own crews from the first inspection to the finished ridge.
Wind is the storm here. Craven County has more recorded thunderstorm-wind events than Nash, Wilson, Pitt or Wayne County, and tropical systems add wind-driven rain that finds every lifted shingle. After a storm the first job is to stop water coming in; the inspection follows.
Three finished jobs from the last eighteen months. All three were insurance claims: the roof was inspected and documented first, then replaced. Each card shows the town, the month the roof was finished and what the photos show.

Inspected in early August and re-roofed by the start of October 2025. The charcoal architectural shingles cover a hip-and-gable roof with a front dormer, arched gable windows and roof vents near the ridge.

Inspected in early February and re-roofed at the end of April 2025. The old roof around the two skylights was packed with pine straw (first photo). The new roof went on in IKO Cambridge architectural shingles with IKO Leading Edge Plus starter, IKO Hip & Ridge 12 caps and a Lomanco OmniRidge Pro ridge vent — the materials are on the pallets in the second photo — and both skylights now sit in new metal flashing.

We do not have a New Bern office. Our offices are at 1414 Forbes St in Greenville and 136 S. Business Ct in Rocky Mount, and one number reaches both: (252) 302-2003, answered around the clock for active leaks.
Full re-roofs in architectural shingles, like the three jobs above: the old roof documented first, the new one photographed as it goes on, down to the ridge vent and the skylight flashing.
Creased and lifted shingles along the windward slopes, and wind-driven rain behind them. After a storm we tarp the roof first, then inspect it fully once it is safe to walk.
Craven County is inside North Carolina's coastal area. The IBHS FORTIFIED Roof standard is built for high wind — a sealed roof deck under the shingles, among other requirements — and Carolina Trophy Roofs is a FORTIFIED Certified Roofer.
On the coast, separate windstorm policies and named-storm deductibles are common, so the first question on a New Bern claim is which policy and which deductible apply. We document the roof, meet your adjuster and handle the paperwork through to the depreciation release.

Storm record · Craven County
What the public record says about roofs in New Bern and the rest of Craven County
Between 2016 and 2026 NOAA logged 142 roof-relevant storm events in Craven County: 116 thunderstorm wind, 19 hail and 7 tornadoes. The strongest straight-line gust on file is 67 kt, on Jan 9, 2024.
Tornado damage is different in kind from everything else in this record. It is narrow — a track a few hundred yards wide can take the roofs off one street and leave the next street untouched — and inside the track the failure is structural rather than cosmetic: decking lifted off the rafters, whole roof planes removed, debris driven through what is left. For the far larger number of homes that sit outside the track, the damage is the same physics as any severe-wind event: pressure at the edges lifting tabs along the eaves and rakes, ridge caps displaced, and impact marks from debris carried out of the track. Both are worth looking at after a tornado-producing system crosses the county, and the dated entries below say when those systems came through.
The $3,000 figure is NOAA's reported property damage for the whole of Craven County from these storms, 2016–2026 — a county-wide reporting total. It is not the cost of a roof, and it is not an amount paid to any property owner.
Event descriptions as recorded in the NOAA NCEI Storm Events Database.
* 2026 is a partial year — the record runs to the most recent update of the source, not to the end of the year, so its bar is not comparable with the others. A year showing zero had no recorded hail, tornado or thunderstorm-wind event in this county.

FORTIFIED on the coast · Craven County
Craven County is in North Carolina’s CAMA coastal area — why the standard keeps coming up on roofs in New Bern
NOAA logged 7 tornadoes in Craven County between 2016 and 2026, alongside 116 thunderstorm-wind events and 19 hail events. The strongest gust in the file is 67 kt, measured on Jan 9, 2024.
Most homes under a tornado-producing system are not in the track. They are in the severe straight-line wind around it, and that is the load the FORTIFIED requirements are written against: a sealed roof deck that keeps water out once the covering is gone, ring-shank nails in an enhanced pattern so cyclic uplift cannot draw the sheathing off the rafters, and a locked-down perimeter, because an edge is where wind gets its first handhold. Inside the track no standard is a guarantee, and FORTIFIED is not offered as one.
FORTIFIED is a voluntary resilience construction standard published by IBHS — a way of building a roof and documenting how it was built, not a warranty, a claims service, or a promise about any storm. Carolina Trophy Roofs is a FORTIFIED certified roofer: we build to the standard and photograph the concealed work. The evaluator has to be a separate party from the installing roofer, and IBHS issues the designation after reviewing what that evaluator submits.

Storm damage · New Bern, NC
New Bern's storm record is shaped by its position at the head of the Neuse estuary: the county has more recorded thunderstorm-wind events, and more tornado reports, than Nash, Wilson, Pitt or Wayne County. Tropical systems add wind-driven rain that finds every lifted shingle and open seam. After a storm here the first job is usually to stop water entering — a tarp on the day, then a full inspection once the roof is safe to walk.
The public record backs that up. Between 2016 and 2026, the NOAA NCEI Storm Events Database logged 142 roof-relevant storm events in Craven County: 19 hail, 116 thunderstorm-wind and 7 tornado reports. The largest hail in the file measured 1.75 in. (Golf Ball) on Aug 10, 2019. The strongest measured gust was 67 knots on Jan 9, 2024, in the unit the source records. One entry in the county file reads: “Jan 9, 2024 -- Thunderstorm Wind (67 kt gust)”.

Craven County sits inside the coastal area where separate windstorm policies and named-storm deductibles are common, so the first thing to check on a New Bern roof claim is which policy and which deductible apply. The North Carolina Department of Insurance says every homeowners policy in the state requires you to give prompt notice of a loss, make reasonable emergency repairs and keep the receipts, and that the insurer should acknowledge receipt of your claim within 30 days. Carolina Trophy Roofs documents the damage, meets the adjuster on your roof in New Bern, and handles the claim paperwork from the first photo to the final invoice. Read the step-by-step North Carolina roof insurance claims guide for deductibles, depreciation, deadlines and what to do if a claim is denied.
