Carolina Trophy Roofs repairs and replaces roofs in Kinston and the towns around it, from our Greenville office about 27 miles north. On this page: two Kinston roofs from 2022 and two Snow Hill jobs finished in October 2025 and April 2026.
Lenoir County's storm record is a wind record. Of the 55 roof-relevant events NOAA logged there since 2016, 47 were thunderstorm wind, the strongest a 70-knot gust on May 23, 2022, and only 5 were hail. Next door in Greene County the file includes a 2.00-inch hailstone from May 9, 2023. Both records are further down.
Four finished jobs, placed by town only. Each card gives the month of the finished-roof photos and describes what they show. No streets, no house numbers.

Inspected in August 2025 and finished in early October. The house has stone-faced gables, a columned front entry and several roof levels; the photos show the finished gray architectural shingles from the lawn and from the ridge, with open fields beyond.

First visited in June 2022 and finished in November. Charcoal architectural shingles over the hips and gables of a two-story brick house.

Re-roofed at the start of June 2022 in brown-blend architectural shingles, over the two front dormers, the covered porch and the side gable with its bay window.

We do not have a Kinston office. Kinston is served from our Greenville office at 1414 Forbes St, about 27 miles away in a straight line, and from our main office in Rocky Mount. Call (252) 302-2003 at any hour for an active leak.
Wind-lifted and missing shingles, leaks at vents and chimneys, and worn ridge caps. Most Lenoir County storm damage is wind, and a lifted tab caught early is a repair instead of a ceiling.
Full re-roofs in architectural shingles on homes and on larger buildings like the Snow Hill job above, from tear-off to ridge cap.

What the public record says about roofs in Kinston and the rest of Lenoir County
That is worth stating plainly, because it is what the record says. Across 2016 to 2026 NOAA logged 5 hail events in Lenoir County, out of 55 roof-relevant storm events in total. The largest hail anywhere in the county file is Quarter - Half Dollar at 1.00 in, on May 3, 2016.
So if a roof here is being written up for hail damage, the county record does not support hail as the likely cause, and it is fair to ask what the assessment is actually based on. What the record does show is wind: 47 thunderstorm-wind events, peaking at 70 kt on May 23, 2022, and 3 tornadoes. An inspection worth paying for in this county is looking at lifted and missing tabs along the eaves and rake edges, ridge caps knocked out of line, and flashing pulled loose at walls and penetrations — not at bruise marks in the field of the roof.
Event descriptions as recorded in the NOAA NCEI Storm Events Database.
* 2026 is a partial year — the record runs to the most recent update of the source, not to the end of the year, so its bar is not comparable with the others. A year showing zero had no recorded hail, tornado or thunderstorm-wind event in this county.
The communities nearest Kinston reach into 4 other counties, and those counties do not share Lenoir County's record:
Source: NOAA NCEI Storm Events Database, 2016-2026, Lenoir County (U.S. Government work, public domain). Counts cover roof-relevant event types only — hail, tornado and thunderstorm wind. Records are county-level; NOAA does not log these events by street address.
Storm damage · Kinston, NC
Kinston's county record is a wind record, not a hail record: Lenoir County has only a handful of hail reports, none larger than an inch, against dozens of thunderstorm-wind events and three tornadoes. On a Kinston roof, storm damage usually means creased and lifted tabs, missing shingles and flashing that has worked loose, and it often shows up as a leak weeks after the storm.
The public record backs that up. Between 2016 and 2026, the NOAA NCEI Storm Events Database logged 55 roof-relevant storm events in Lenoir County: 5 hail, 47 thunderstorm-wind and 3 tornado reports. The largest hail in the file measured 1.00 in. (Quarter - Half Dollar) on May 3, 2016. The strongest measured gust was 70 knots on May 23, 2022, in the unit the source records. One entry in the county file reads: “Jun 22, 2023 -- Tornado (EF1)”.

Wind claims in Kinston are often filed after the leak appears, so the date of the storm, not the date the stain showed up, is the one that matters. The North Carolina Department of Insurance says every homeowners policy in the state requires you to give prompt notice of a loss, make reasonable emergency repairs and keep the receipts, and that the insurer should acknowledge receipt of your claim within 30 days. Carolina Trophy Roofs documents the damage, meets the adjuster on your roof in Kinston, and handles the claim paperwork from the first photo to the final invoice.
